How does 2014 odyssey vcm 2 work1/2/2023 Obviously you were able to figure out the difference with the interior design. You came to the forum to ask for advice for Sienna problems not the design, the interior seating and engineering Toyota has to offer. Gonna have to take our chances with the Ody.Ĭlick to expand.I like most of what the Odyssey can offer except the engine even with the latest model. I also believe, btw, that Sienna may be more mechanically reliable down the road, but this was just asking us to make too many sacrifices. So now we're down to 17 Odys (because I've heard awful things about the 5th gen starting in 2018). We knew this would be the case going in, and we could have lived with it if that was the only drawback, the terrible rear cabin mechanics were a deal breaker for us. The electronics were also outdated compared to the 17 Ody. ![]() better than this considering the Sienna is so well regarded. The chairs were also much harder to slide than the Ody. The second row captains chairs left their brackets on the floor even after removing the chairs. The third row fold down left big gaps and creases and awkward foldover pieces of fabric. There's nothing flat about the Sienna floor. I need a rear cabin with a flat-ish floor. I sometimes use our minivan to move big items. The interior just felt kind of cheap and dated - even compared to our 09 Ody! And the rear seat mechanics were AWFUL compared to the Ody. The car drove great, though it really wasn't any quieter or smoother than our 2009 Ody. We were extremely unimpressed by the Sienna. We test drove a 2018 Sienna XLE and a 2017 Odyssey EXL today. The infotainment system could use an update, but it generally works. Other than that, still some low level power door issues and the gas door hinges are weak. But the similar Highlander (95% same drivetrain) still gets dinged by the automotive press for poor gear changes and hunting. The current Sienna is nearing the end, so it's not being reviewed much anymore. Towards the end of the 2018 model year the revised transmissions seemed to iron things out.Ģ018 also received the full TSS suite (lane keeping, braking, etc.), so that's another plus for a post December 2017 (I'll have to check the dates later.) build. 2017 & 2018's had some quiet recall / extended warranty activity and a LOT of replaced transmissions. The 2017 models were a bit rocky, with bouts of poor software for the new Atkinson Cycle version of the venerable 2GR-FE engine and the new 8 speed tranny. After the interior redo, but before the drivetrain update. ![]() Many consider the 'sweet spot' to be the 2015-2016 models.
